In summer, Texas air temps hit 100°F+ and the water surface can reach 90°F. Bring at least 1 gallon of water per person per day. Heat exhaustion is a real risk — fish early (5–9 AM) and late (6–8 PM) to avoid peak heat.
Boat Handling in Wind

The Tide Rule for Gulf Coast Redfish
If you're fishing the coast, keep an eye on the tides — a "moving tide" is the only time the big Redfish are truly active in the bays. An incoming tide pushes baitfish onto the flats; an outgoing tide concentrates fish in the cuts and channels. Slack tide? Go get lunch.
The Texas Rig — Born in Texas
The Texas Rig originated in Texas in the 1950s — invented to fish through the thick timber and brush piles of East Texas reservoirs without snagging. It's still the most effective bass technique in the state. Here's how to rig it properly:
DU Tech Tip: In the thick timber of Sam Rayburn and Lake Fork, use a pegged weight so the sinker and bait fall together as one unit. A free-sliding weight will hang up in the branches while your bait falls away — you'll miss the strike.
